EFFI mirror: the Diebold-documents

Communication must not be hindered more than is necessary, respecting
the freedom of speech in a democratic, constitutional state. EFFI will collect
on these pages documents that we think have become subjects of unjustified sensorship
and deal with the issues we are concerned over.

The mirrored documents may contain strong opinions and sometimes claims
whose authenticity one cannot be sure of. Therefore they do not necessary
reflect EFFI’s opinions but are still published so that the readers interested
in the issues can become familiar with the material and draw their own
conclusions.

The honor for being the first to be mirrored goes to a document set
revealing problems with electronic election machines manufactured by a company called Diebold.
Diebold has conducted an active campaign in the USA to keep these documents out
of the public. They have used DMCA, the local copyright act as means to bring down
servers that host these files. EFFI, however, thinks that they don’t qualify as
copyrightable works and even if they did in the US, publishing them is allowed at
least under the Finnish jurisdiction.
